Allan Gibb and the GPE:

Allan Gibb has been with us since 1998, when we started preparing our postgraduate scientific master’s program, and has remained with us all these years. We are a part of his activity in development of entrepreneurial education at European universities, and we are very proud of that. His ideas, enthusiasm, commitment in creation of the local team, connecting with the world – all this is built into first interdisciplinary international doctoral study ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATIVENESS. Allan was the mentor to our first doctors of science, Sunčica Oberman Peterka and Mirela Alpeza, he worked with our professors, talked with representatives of local government, ministry of entrepreneurship. What is most important, he has always insisted on contextualisation.

Allan is a pioneer in entrepreneurial education, because even back in the 1970s he had recognized the importance of enterprising activity (proactive, innovative and responsible). Allan did that and is still doing it in an irresistibly interesting way – by strolling with indescribable ease from details to the se „big picture“ and back. He was never just a professor, but he understood the starting point of business venture owners, bankers, politicians, consultants. Or is that a characteristic of a true professor? Besides, he always insists on contextualisation – without imposing somebody else’s experience regardless of the context.

Today there are more than 450 of our GPE students who have had the opportunity to learn from Allan either through personal contact or through courses that Allan had developed, such as Growth Strategies for Small and Medium-sized Businesses, Entrepreneurship from Policy Perspective, Consultancy. Our students have carried their experience of entrepreneurial education to other parts of Croatia, to Macedonia, to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and thus this Allan’s mission continues.

It is always a pleasure to learn from Allan and to learn together with him. Therefore, once more, congratulations,

Slavica and the GPE team
