New event in the SIEF series of webinars and events held to build on the ideas of Professor Allan Gibb (1939-2019) who was a pioneering thinker in entrepreneurship and small business development is focusing on Professor Saras Sarasvathy’s effectuation theory.
On September 29, 2021 at 3.00 pm UK time (4.00 pm CET) Professor Saras Sarasvathy will talk about effectuation in the context of the pandemic and how the entrepreneurial response across societies and economies will take account of the ‘new normal’.
This ‘in conversation with’ event will explore Sarasvathy’s effectuation theory in the context of the pandemic and how the entrepreneurial response across societies and economies will take account of the ‘new normal’. Topics for discussion include:
- How the lockdown has prompted a re-thinking of being entrepreneurial as people re-assess their time spent at work, in business, with family and their contribution to society and community?
- With the resource changes imposed by the pandemic, how Sarasvathy’s Pilot-in-the-plane view for effectuation will enable a different way of thinking about the resources needed for entrepreneurial action?
- How the hubris of the ‘fake it until you make it’ culture in Silicon Valley, e.g. the Theranos scandal, is distorting how we understand the entrepreneurial endeavour and what this means for theories of entrepreneurship?
